Generation No. 1
1.

Child of W
ILLIAM GRANT and MARGARET VENNER is:2. i. WILLIAM
2 GRANT II, b. February 22, 1725/26, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Scotland; d. January 22, 1804, Fayette County, Kentucky.
Generation No. 2
2.
WILLIAM2 GRANT II (WILLIAM1) was born February 22, 1725/26 in Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Scotland, and died January 22, 1804 in Fayette County, Kentucky. He married ELIZABETH BOONE January 10, 1754 in North Carolina, daughter of SQUIRE BOONE and SARAH MORGAN. She was born February 05, 1732/33 in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and died February 25, 1825 in Bryans Station, Fayette County, Kentucky.Notes for W
ILLIAM GRANT II:v There is some evidence that the Boones stopped for a while in Virginia, probably near Winchester. They may have stayed there two years or more, as their purchase of land in North Carolina was not made until December, 1753. This account does not take into consideration the 1750 land grant to Squire Boone nor the fact that his daughter Elizabeth was in North Carolina early enough to marry William Grant in the Yadkin Valley and bear his child, daughter Mary Grant, there on 22 September 1753. [Note 46] Perhaps Squire and his older children preceded his wife and younger children to North Carolina to acquire land, leaving them in Virginia for a year or so until he could erect a dwelling in the Yadkin Valley.

v There were severe Indian uprisings along the frontier settlements of North Carolina in 1759 and the pioneers returned to more populated areas for safety. The Bryans and other settlers took refuge at Fort Dobbs. Samuel Boone, son of Squire and Sarah, took his family to South Carolina and apparently stayed there until he later migrated to Kentucky. Squire and Sarah Morgan Boone went to Virginia and Maryland, probably taking their younger children, Squire, Jr. and Hannah, with them. Their son Daniel Boone and their daughter Elizabeth Boone Grant and their families accompanied them. While they were in Virginia, near the present site of Washington, D.C., William Grant, Jr. was born to William and Elizabeth Boone Grant on 10 January 1761. Daniel Boone reportedly lived in Culpeper County, Virginia, where he was employed, with his wagon, in hauling tobacco to Fredericksburg, Virginia, the nearest market town. ***I am sending this info to the Boone list and thought there might be those on
the Grant list who would be interested, too. It concerns William Grant II
and his wife Elizabeth Boone (sister to Daniel Boone):
In the book "Stockading Up" by Nancy O'Malley it says: "William Grant
established a station on his 1400-acre settlement and preemption grants lying
on the Little North Elkhorn (now Goose Creek) between Russell Cave and
Greenwich Pikes about 10 miles from Lexington. Grant and his wife are
reportedly buried on the property. The location of Grant's land is shown on
a plat returned in a land dispute between Randolph and Nathaniel Harris and
Peter Moore." There is a map included.
In the book "Genealogies of Kentucky Families" it says: About 1783 William
Grant, II, procured a preemption and settlement of 1400 acres on Elkhorn, but
became discouraged and decided to go back to North Carolina. He sold 400
acres of this land for an Indian pony, which was promptly stolen the next day
with all the other horses. This made his contemplated migration impossible.
He had to stay in Kentucky; so he lived at Boone's Station, in the present
Fayette County, until his death in 1804. Elizabeth died January 25, 1814.
They are buried there, about ten miles east of Lexington under an apple tree
they had planted when they first came out." Note: In researching this, it
is evident that they lived at Bryan's Station, not Boone's Station, as they
are present in the Bryan's Station Baptist Church records.
Land Records:
August 1776 (Cert issd for 1400 fees & c pd D.D.) "Wm. Grant Sen'r this
day claimed a settlement & preemption to a tract of land in the
district of
Kentucky lying on the North fork of Elkhorn on both sides thereof

of
Opinion that the s'd Grant has a right to settlem't of 400 Acres of
land
to include the above Location & preemption of 1000 Acres adjoining &
that a certificate issue accordingly." ( I believe that the 400
acres was
given to him for his service in the French and Indian War. I know
that
he was given a land bounty warrant, but I can't find that information
right now.)
June 15, 1784 Fayette County, KY 1,000 a. adjoining his settlement
June 15, 1784 Fayette County, KY 400 a adjoining his settlement
Jan. 25, 1785 Fayette County, KY 300 a on the waters of Hustons fork of
Licking
July 10, 1785 Fayette County, KY 500 a on the waters of the north fork
of Elkhorn adjoining Pattersons land
Jan. 25, 1785 Fayette County, KY 200 a on the waters of Hustons fork of
Licking and adjoining James Parberrys Settlement
July 10, 1785 Fayette County, KY 1,000 a on the middle fork of Licking
adjoining Israel Grants settlement
The property was sold off by the family in the late 1800's. It has been
divided into smaller properties and is now a series of horse farms. To get
to it, you travel out of Lexington about 10 miles northeast on Russell Cave
Pike.
More later.

Notes for E
LIZABETH BOONE:v ...On October 5, 1780, Edward and his older brother Daniel went hunting on the Hinkston [Creek] to kill game for Bryan's Station [which was] on Elkhorn Creek in Fayette County, about five miles from Lexington and not far from Boone's Station where Edward and his family lived. Several of Edward's kin had settled at Bryan's, among them two of his sisters, Mary Boone (wife of William Bryan) and Elizabeth Boone (wife of William Grant).
